POSITION Full-time, twelve-month Management/Confidential position to begin no later than August 1, 2008.
RESPONSIBILITIES The Chief (Director) of University Police is a full time position that reports directly to the Vice President for Student Affairs and will serve as a member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team. The mission of the department embraces community policing philosophies within the framework of promoting and creating a safe and supportive environment for the campus community. The University Police department consists of the Chief, three Lieutenants, six officers and a clerical staff position. Members of the department carry weapons and have full police powers. The Director is responsible for the management of the overall operation of the campus police department pro-actively providing vision, leadership and hands-on supervision for all staff ensuring that high quality campus safety and security services are being offered; this includes being an effective communicator and being responsible to make contact with officers during days, evenings and late night. The Chief will work with the University Police Department to develop a team approach and a customer service focus in the delivery of all law enforcement initiatives, community policing plans, campus safety and security initiatives. The Chief will be responsible for all emergency preparedness and emergency operational systems, procedures and policies for the college. Working with and supporting students in an educational environment is essential. The Chief will be responsible to work closely with college administration, faculty, staff, and local law enforcement agencies that surround the campus community. The Chief is responsible for the enforcement of all federal, state, and local laws as well as rules and regulations of the College and the State University of New York. The Chief will be responsible to also work with and support the campus student judicial system.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible to manage the overall operations of the University Police Department and oversee officers efforts to investigate reports of crimes and other incidents and recommend appropriate actions to ensure the safety of the campus community.
2. Provide direct supervision of the nine-member department and clerical staff. Meet weekly via staff meetings with Lieutenants.
3. Meet and make contact on a regular basis with each of the officers. Provide guidance and direction for each of the officers as necessary. Coordinate work schedule so Chief can meet with all shifts at least once a week.
4. Develop strategies that ensure that the department embraces a pro-active community policing policy/practice.
5. Provide leadership, strategic planning and vision for the management of the campuses emergency preparedness management system including writing protocols, procedures, policies and coordinating training for staff.
6. Evaluate, develop, coordinate and implement all traffic, safety, access control and emergency coordination as well as coordinating campus parking services and security.
7. Assess campus safety and security practices and develop initiatives to improve services and overall security to the campus.
8. Serve as budget officer for the department.
9. Serve as Chair of the Campus Safety Committee.
10. Be accessible by telephone and/or other various telecommunications devices in case of emergency.
11. Be involved in the campus community and develop strong working relationships with college faculty, staff, students and with local police agencies.
12. Oversee all hiring, selection and training of staff. Promote and encourage professional development activity and skill enhancement training for all officers.
QUALIFICATIONS Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, or appropriate related field. Significant experience in police administration, police service and/or College police/public safety work necessary. Strong supervisory and management skills and thorough knowledge of Federal, State and local laws required. Extensive experience in patrol, and criminal investigation, and outstanding communication and team building skills highly preferred. Ability to embrace and support community policing philosophy a must. Minimum of five years supervisory experience in law enforcement required. Work within a college environment is a plus. Strong computer skills and completion of NIMS training and other such emergency management systems preferred. Preference would be for successful candidate to live within the larger Cobleskill community. Position is subject to background check per state requirements.
SALARY AND
BENEFITS Salary range: $70,000 to $75,000. Employee benefits are available with the State University of New York.

This classified, civil service position also functions as the Administrator for the Division of Capitol Police. Job Duties: The Chief leads the Division of Capitol Police, which consists of a management team with a deputy chief, one police lieutenant, eight police sergeants, a security operations manager and 47 police and support positions personnel whose primary responsibilities are protecting the state infrastructure and state employees. Under the supervision of the DOA Secretary’s Office this position is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the activities and providing law enforcement, criminal investigation, dignitary protection, homeland security planning, public safety, emergency and disaster planning and event management. The Police Chief currently serves as a member of the Governor’s Homeland Security Council. In addition, this position will work collaboratively with other Dane County law enforcement and emergency management groups, UW-Madison and the State Patrol. The position recommends Administrative Code and State Statute changes affecting the agency and ensures the Capitol Police are in compliance with all codes, statutes, federal mandates and DOA policies. The Chief develops, administers, manages, and implements the policy development, planning, budgeting, organizing, controlling, monitoring for all programs managed by the Capitol Police. The Chief oversees the management of approximately 5500 parking stalls under the paid parking program.
Special Notes: Employment in this position will require an extensive background investigation, psychological interviews and a comprehensive medical exam including drug screening.

Duties

The incumbent is
required to maintain certification as a law enforcement officer pursuant to
Chapter 943, Florida Statutes, is required to bear firearms, and possess the
power of arrest pursuant to Section 633.14, Florida Statutes. When requested, the incumbent assists other
agencies in Law Enforcement activities resulting from natural disasters and
civil disturbances. The position has access to confidential and
sensitive law enforcement intelligence, including Department of Homeland
Security intelligence, and databases such as the National Crime Information
System, The Florida Crime Information System, and the InSite database, and
intelligence bulletins restricted to sworn personnel.
Selected
applicant must demonstrate the capacity to uphold high standards of personal
and professional integrity and must model core ideology and integrate it into
daily activities of the Divisions of State Fire Marshal, Insurance Fraud, and
Workers’ Compensation. Candidates for
Deputy Chief Financial Officer must have demonstrated technical skills and high
level management experience in a law enforcement environment. The Deputy Chief Financial Officer must have excellent
communication and presentation skills and the capacity to work effectively with
stakeholders and customers.
The ideal candidate would have at a minimum 10 years experience
as a senior manager in a large governmental or corporate program. Applicants must possess a high degree of
executive management capabilities and experience and must demonstrate the
ability to perform at this level.

The Chief of Police receives direction from the Vice Provost for Student Life, and in emergent conditions, from the President of the University.
We seek a veteran law enforcement executive, with familiarity and knowledge of all aspects of police department operations, who will be dedicated to maintaining the safety and security of the University of Washington community. The University of Washington is a large, densely populated, and uniquely diverse organization in the middle of the Pacific Northwest’s largest urban population center. JOB DESCRIPTION
Works under regular supervision, performs duties of a Law Enforcement Officer
to protect Bank property and personnel by controlling building access. Makes
assigned rounds, operates and monitors basic surveillance equipment, issues
badges, and operates computer terminal stations under supervision of more
experienced personnel.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
1. Maintains a vigilant posture while protecting Bank property; assures that
all employees, customers and visitors observe Bank security rules and
regulations. Reports to the Command Center any irregularities or incidents;
apprehends/detains employees or others committing acts of theft, destruction,
or any type misdemeanor, promptly reporting same to proper authorities.
2. Controls high-volume access of persons and vehicles into building;
determines identity and purpose of visit, directs visitors to proper person or
department, and controls In/Out Register. May escort visitors to designated
points within the Bank and to and from the Bank parking lot as required.
3. Monitors activities and operations within the Bank through the use of
electronic surveillance system, computerized detection system and closed
circuit television (CCTV). Identifies possible security weaknesses such as
unsecured areas, badging procedures, suspicious occurrences, etc. May be
required to operate automated system to acknowledge alarms, lock and unlock
doors and observe intercom calls.
4. Maintains established proficiency as determined by Protection Department
management in the use of .40 caliber semi-automatic through regular target
practice and qualifications. Receives regular safety and familiarization in the
use of semi-automatic rifles, training in the use and handling of 12-gauge
shotgun, non-lethal defensive spray and other security equipment.
5. Responds, when directed by senior protection staff, to source of emergencies
within the Bank, using the minimum force necessary. Initiates fire prevention
procedures, performs and assists in emergency fire control. Must be prepared to
administer minor first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated
external defibrillation during emergencies.
6. Performs miscellaneous duties of a relevant nature as assigned, such as making
unscheduled inspections of the Bank and Bank perimeter during weekly, evening,
night and daytime operations, as well as writing reports.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Ability to work in a positive team environment, demonstrated by a positive
attitude and past experience in team-spirit driven activities.
2. Knowledge of proper security procedures and practices
3. Skill in observing, monitoring, and preparing reports on incidents related
to the security of the Federal Reserve Bank building, employees, and property.
4. Ability to fire and qualify with a handgun, semi-automatic rifle and shotgun
at anytime.
5. Ability to meet and deal with Bank visitors requesting information or
presenting a problem in a professional manner.
6. Ability to read and write the English language at a 12th grade level of
proficiency required to prepare incident reports, check identification of
visitors, and log information through the use of computer equipment.
7. Ability to stand, sit, walk or climb stairs for long intervals.
8. Ability to perform duties in varied weather conditions including inclement
weather.
9. Ability to communicate effectively for greeting and checking in Bank guests
and employees, answering telephones, taking messages, checking identification
and logging information.
10. Ability to work in a confined area on a rotational basis.
11. Ability to use good judgment under stress.
12. Ability to follow explicit instructions.
13. Ability to qualify for and maintain a security officer’s license.
14. Above knowledge, skills, and abilities may be demonstrated by one year of
experience in Security.
Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent. Prior law
enforcement, military and or private security experience preferred.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is currently seeking State Certified Officers (any state) to join its team of highly qualified, well-trained, Airport Police Officers for the Police Department. Positions may be at either Ronald Reagan Washington National or Washington Dulles International Airports. Excellent Opportunity and Benefits! Candidates must be willing to work at either Airport in order to apply.
To be eligible, candidates must meet the following criteria:
a. provide proof of certification
b. be a U.S. Citizen
c. be at least 21 years of age or within 6 months of your 21st birthday
d. be a high school graduate or possess a GED equivalent
e. have a valid driver's license from your state of residence
f. meet Visual Acuity standards (Far vision must be at least 20/30 in each eye corrected with lenses or spectacles. Uncorrected far vision must be at least 20/100 in each eye. Visual field performance without correction shall be 140 degrees in the horizontal median of each eye.)
